Why did the delegation bypass Yirmiyahu and seek Chuldah's prophecy instead? This shiur explores a profound principle about responsibility and prayer drawn from Parshas Ki Sisa and the Gemara (גמרא) in Megillah 14b. After the sin of the Golden Calf, Moshe pleads with Hashem (ה׳) to forgive the Jewish people, saying, "If You will not forgive them, erase me from Your book that You have written" (Shemos 32:32). Rashi (רש"י) explains this refers to the entire Torah (תורה). Rabbi Zweig asks: what kind of threat is this? Is Moshe doing God a favor by having his name in the Torah? The answer emerges from a Gemara in Megillah 14b. When King Yoshiyahu needed to consult a prophet about the impending destruction of the Temple, his delegation bypassed the chief prophet Yirmiyahu and went to the prophetess Chuldah. The Gemara explains they went to her because "women are more compassionate." The Maharsha asks an essential question: a prophet delivers God's direct message—what difference does it make who delivers it? The message should be identical regardless of the messenger.
