Why does the Torah (תורה) repeat the Mishkan's details through plans, construction, and erection? The Torah's repetition teaches that the Jewish people's labor in building the Mishkan was the love offering, generating a Divine presence even greater than Sinai.
Rabbi Zweig addresses a question that troubles every reader of the final parshios of Sefer Shemos: Why does the Torah (תורה) devote such extensive detail to the Mishkan—first the plans in Terumah and Tetzaveh, then the execution in Vayakhel, and finally the erection in Pekudei? Why not simply state the plans and note that they were implemented? The answer, Rabbi Zweig explains, lies in understanding a fundamental principle about relationships and gift-giving. When a person gives a gift, the wrapping, the shopping time, the thought invested in selecting it, and the effort in delivering it are all part of the gift itself—not merely means to the end of transferring an object. A check requires no effort; a thoughtfully chosen, wrapped, and delivered gift embodies hours of caring. The recipient who focuses only on the monetary value misses the true gift: the love expressed through every stage of preparation. This principle applies powerfully to the Mishkan. The Jewish people's meticulous work—carried out with wisdom, inspired hearts, and devotion—was itself the offering to Hashem (ה׳), not merely a means to construct a building.
