Why does Yosef wait until Vayigash to reveal himself, after his dreams were already fulfilled in Mikeitz? The shiur develops that Yosef's goal wasn't merely vindication but establishing a model of leadership combining av (father) and melech (king). By forcing Yehuda to step forward as a protective leader, Yosef demonstrates that Jewish sovereignty requires both total devotion to the people (like a father) and authority (like a king) - the yesod of Avinu Malkeinu.
Rabbi Zweig addresses a fundamental question about Parshas Vayigash: Why does Yosef continue testing his brothers after they've already fulfilled his dreams by bowing before him at the end of Parshas Mikeitz? At that point, everything Yosef seemingly wanted had been achieved - they fell before him and offered themselves as slaves. Yet instead of revealing himself, Yosef continues the charade, ultimately keeping only Binyamin and letting the others return. The shiur argues this demonstrates that Yosef's true goal was never mere personal vindication. Rashi (רש"י) explains that when Yosef finally reveals himself, it's not because of an emotional outburst but because he couldn't bear to embarrass his brothers publicly before Pharaoh's household. This shows Yosef's deep love for his brothers even while testing them. Moreover, even after the revelation, tensions remain - the Midrash Tanchuma states the brothers were ready to kill Yosef, and at the end of Vayechi they still fear his revenge. Clearly, complete reconciliation hasn't occurred, raising the question: what actually changed in Vayigash?

Why does seeing a sotah inspire one to become a nazir? The nazir's abstention creates a pre-sin state where body and soul exist in perfect harmony. This 30-day period corrects the internal contradiction that led to his original transgression.
Why does the Midrash connect Pharaoh's expulsion of the Jews to the mitzvah of shiluach hakan? The shiur develops a chiddush that Pharaoh's sin wasn't only drowning the children, but the insensitivity of expelling the parents afterward. The deeper analysis reveals that Pharaoh may have valued the Jews greatly and wanted to control them—making his expulsion an act of tremendous cruelty, not liberation.
Why does Moshe respond to the splitting of the sea with shirah rather than praise or thanksgiving? Rashi's use of "al libo" reveals that shirah is an emotional expression—a response of love to love. When Hashem shows personal care, the only adequate response is "I love You too," not mere gratitude or praise, and this principle applies to all relationships.

What is the primary purpose of the cities of refuge - protecting the accidental killer or something else? The shiur argues that creating respect for law takes precedence over providing sanctuary. True deterrence comes from recognizing the gravity of murder itself, not fear of punishment.
