Why does Yosef finally reveal himself after Yehuda's speech? Yehuda's arvus (guarantorship) represents true malchus—total self-nullification and commitment to others without expecting anything in return. This contrasts with Reuven's offer and Yosef's dream-based kingship, which demanded submission first. Yehuda's approach creates authentic unity and kingship, mirroring Hashem (ה׳)'s relationship with Klal Yisroel through yetzias Mitzrayim.
Rabbi Zweig begins by examining the puzzling climax of Parshas Vayigash. Throughout Yehuda's lengthy plea, he recounts events Yosef already knows intimately—after all, Yosef orchestrated the entire situation. What suddenly changes that forces Yosef to reveal himself? Rashi (רש"י) explains that Yosef could no longer tolerate (lo yachol lehisapek) the shame his brothers would experience when the Egyptians heard his admission, but this doesn't explain why Yosef reached this point specifically now. The shiur identifies a fundamental contrast between Reuven's earlier guarantee and Yehuda's arvus. When Reuven offered to guarantee Binyamin's safety, he said "give him into my hand" (tno oso al yadi)—asking to personally take charge of Binyamin. He offered his two sons' lives as collateral. Chazal call this "bechor shoteh" (a foolish firstborn), because killing his sons doesn't compensate Yaakov for losing Binyamin. But more fundamentally, Reuven was requesting power and control—give Binyamin to me, and I will be responsible.

Why does seeing a sotah inspire one to become a nazir? The nazir's abstention creates a pre-sin state where body and soul exist in perfect harmony. This 30-day period corrects the internal contradiction that led to his original transgression.
Why does the Midrash connect Pharaoh's expulsion of the Jews to the mitzvah of shiluach hakan? The shiur develops a chiddush that Pharaoh's sin wasn't only drowning the children, but the insensitivity of expelling the parents afterward. The deeper analysis reveals that Pharaoh may have valued the Jews greatly and wanted to control them—making his expulsion an act of tremendous cruelty, not liberation.
Why does Moshe respond to the splitting of the sea with shirah rather than praise or thanksgiving? Rashi's use of "al libo" reveals that shirah is an emotional expression—a response of love to love. When Hashem shows personal care, the only adequate response is "I love You too," not mere gratitude or praise, and this principle applies to all relationships.

What is the primary purpose of the cities of refuge - protecting the accidental killer or something else? The shiur argues that creating respect for law takes precedence over providing sanctuary. True deterrence comes from recognizing the gravity of murder itself, not fear of punishment.
