Why did Avrohom remarry Keturah and father more children who could claim inheritance alongside Yitzchok? Moreover, by remarrying and fathering additional children through Keturah, Avrohom appears to be creating new potential heirs who could compete with Yitzchok's inheritance. The Gemara (גמרא) in Sanhedrin 91a records that Bnei Keturah and Bnei Yishmael came before Alexander the Great claiming a portion in Eretz Yisrael as descendants of Avrohom, and only Geviha ben Pesisa's argument—that Avrohom gave them gifts in exchange for relinquishing their inheritance rights—resolved the matter. This indicates they had legitimate claims to the inheritance. The shiur establishes that there are two distinct types of inheritance from Avrohom Avinu. One is the private inheritance of property and possessions that any wealthy individual passes to his children. The other is the spiritual inheritance—the covenant (Bris) between Hashem (ה׳) and Avrohom that defines who will constitute Am Yisrael and inherit the divine promises including Eretz Yisrael. When Sarah said "ki lo yirash ben ha'amah hazos im beni," she was not concerned with private property inheritance but with who would constitute the eternal nation of Israel. Hashem's response "ki b'Yitzchok yikarei lecha zara" established that only through Yitzchok would Am Yisrael be built—this is the source the Rambam (רמב"ם) brings for the principle that Klal Yisrael descends exclusively from Yitzchok. This did not, however, exclude Yishmael or other sons from inheriting Avrohom's private property.
