Why does the Torah (תורה) give two conflicting orders for building the Mishkan—first the vessels, then the structure in Terumah, but the reverse in Parshas Vayakhel? The shiur develops that Terumah describes Hashra'at HaShechinah (the Divine flow toward us, starting with the Aron), while Vayakhel reflects Avodah (our service toward Him, starting with the structure). Betzalel's correction to Moshe teaches that we may not build for reward—only for service.
This shiur provides a comprehensive framework for understanding Parshas Terumah and the entire structure of the Mishkan based on the Ramban (רמב"ן)'s approach. Rabbi Zweig addresses several fundamental difficulties: Why are the tzivuyim (commands) for the Mishkan spread across three parshiyot (Terumah, Tetzaveh, and Ki Sisa)? Why does Parshas Terumah present the vessels before the structure, while later sections reverse this order? Why is the Mizbeach HaKetores omitted from Terumah despite being located in the Heichal, while the outer Mizbeach is included? Why are the Kiyor and Kanoh missing from both Terumah and Tetzaveh entirely? And according to Rashi (רש"י), who holds all these tzivuyim came after Yom Kippur (not during the forty days following Matan Torah (תורה) as the Ramban holds), why does the Torah present them out of chronological order (ein mukdam u'meuchar)? The shiur examines the famous Gemara (גמרא) in Berachos about Betzalel correcting Moshe Rabbeinu's order. When Moshe told Betzalel to make the Aron, vessels, and then the Mishkan, Betzalel responded: "The minhag olam is to first build a house and then bring in furniture—where will I put the vessels?" Moshe replied, "Perhaps you were b'tzeil Kel (in God's shadow) and overheard our conversation," because Hashem (ה׳) had indeed commanded "Mishkan, Aron, and vessels." The technical question arises: why was this even a problem? The Mishkan wasn't erected until Rosh Chodesh Nisan, three and a half months after everything was completed on the 25th of Kislev. Clearly there was storage available. What then was Betzalel's objection?

Why does seeing a sotah inspire one to become a nazir? The nazir's abstention creates a pre-sin state where body and soul exist in perfect harmony. This 30-day period corrects the internal contradiction that led to his original transgression.
What is the primary purpose of the cities of refuge - protecting the accidental killer or something else? The shiur argues that creating respect for law takes precedence over providing sanctuary. True deterrence comes from recognizing the gravity of murder itself, not fear of punishment.
How can sinas chinam lead someone to harm himself even more than his enemy? The shiur develops that sinas chinam requires self-hatred first — only someone alienated from himself will damage himself to hurt others. The Bar Kamtsa host and R. Zecharya ben Avkulas both exhibited this self-alienation, showing that proper anava restores love of both self and others.
Why did the brothers hate Yosef when he received the kutonet pasim, yet strangers saw him as special? The kutonet represented Yaakov's recognition of Yosef's leadership ability—his power to uplift and unify. The brothers' jealousy blinded them; the Torah omits his name when they see him (just "oto"), but strangers always saw "Yosef." True chein comes from seeing others clearly, without the bias of our own needs.
Why did the materials for the Mishkan equal exactly what was needed with no waste, despite the principle that blessing doesn't rest on counted items? The shiur explains that Moshe's complete faithfulness—working solely for Hashem's agenda—transformed counting from an act of personal ownership into one that strengthened divine connection, thereby increasing blessings. Korach's self-interest inverted this principle, costing him everything.
Why does Rashi describe the Mishkan as "collateral" for Jewish sins? Rabbi Zweig develops the concept that God limited His own collection rights—accepting only the Mishkan's destruction rather than the nation's annihilation. This reflects the relationship of a father who reduces his own claims to ensure his children's survival.
Why does the Torah give a detailed accounting of silver and copper but not gold in Parshas Pekudei? The three metals represent three types of givers: those who give selflessly (gold), those seeking a two-way benefit (silver), and those buying honor (copper). The Midrash's three groups suspecting or praising Moshe reveal more about themselves than about Moshe—we judge others by our own standards.
